Mandatory inspection for safety, function & liability

The Equipment testing is a central component of DGUV Regulation 3.
All electrical equipment and systems used in the company must be checked regularly – regardless of whether they are permanently installed machines or mobile office equipment.
The aim is to Avoiding electrical hazards, failures and liability risks.

What are electrical equipment?

Operating resources include:
All electrical devices with a mains connection (plug or permanently installed)
Extension cables, multiple sockets, chargers
Machinery, tools, medical devices
IT devices such as printers, PCs, monitors
Power distributors, lights, heaters and much more.
💡 The decisive factor is: As soon as the device is used in operation, it must be tested.

What does the equipment inspection include?

Depending on the device type, the test is carried out according to DIN VDE 0701-0702, DIN VDE 0105-100 or VDE 0751 (for medical devices):
Visual inspection: external damage, labeling, plugs, housing
Electrical measurements: Protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, leakage currents
Functional test: Device start, displays, safety devices
Documentation: Protocol, test sticker, evidence list

How often should I check?

The inspection intervals depend on the location, frequency of use, and hazard potential. Examples:
