The DGUV Regulation 3 is the most important accident prevention regulation in the field of electrical safety.
It obliges companies and institutions to ensure that electrical equipment and systems regularly check their proper condition to be checked – to avoid work accidents, fires and legal risks.

Background: What does DGUV Regulation 3 regulate?

DGUV Regulation 3 (formerly: BGV A3) was issued by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).
It applies to:
Companies & Self-employed
Public institutions & authorities
Educational institutions & medical facilities
Associations, foundations, churches and many more.
The aim is to Protection of people from electrical hazardswhich may arise from defective equipment, incorrect installation or missing tests.

What needs to be checked?

According to DGUV V3, the following electrical equipment and systems are subject to inspection:
Portable devices: e.g. PCs, printers, machines, tools
Fixed devices: e.g. heaters, air conditioning systems, built-in appliances
Electrical systems: Distribution boards, control cabinets, lighting
Residual current circuit breakers & PRCD devices
Emergency power supply, UPS systems, power generators
Medical devices & nursing beds

Who is allowed to check?

The test may only be carried out by:
Electricians
Qualified persons under the supervision of a qualified electrician
Certified testing service providers such as pruefservice-stuttgart.de

How often does it need to be checked?

The inspection periods depend on:
Device category (mobile / stationary)
Area of application (e.g. construction site, office, clinic)
Intensity of use
Result of the risk assessment

Digital test report with measured values and evaluation
