DIN VDE 0100-600

Safety from the start – the initial inspection after installation

The standard DIN VDE 0100-600 regulates the Initial testing of electrical systems – i.e. the safety check before a newly constructed or modified facility is put into operation.
The aim is Detect errors early and to protect people and property from danger.

What does DIN VDE 0100-600 regulate?

This standard stipulates that any new, extended or modified electrical installation must be checked before first use.
The exam includes:
Visual inspection: e.g. cable laying, protective measures
Testing: e.g. triggering of protective devices
Measurements: e.g. protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance

When is an initial inspection required?

New construction or renovation of buildings
Expansion of existing installations
Conversions in industry, commerce or public sector
Replacement of distribution systems, security systems or supply lines
After repairs to safety-relevant parts

Typical measurements according to DIN VDE 0100-600

Continuity of protective conductors
Insulation resistance between active conductors and earth
Protective conductor current / touch current
Loop impedance & short-circuit current
Tripping of residual current devices (RCDs)
Voltage drop & functional tests

Why is the initial inspection important?

Legally required according to DIN VDE & DGUV
Proof for building acceptance, insurance & authorities
Avoiding consequential damages caused by hidden errors
Safety for employees, residents and operators

Who is allowed to check?

Only one Electrician or qualified person may carry out and document the test.
We will do it for you – professionally, on time and legally compliant.
